Deer.

'To protect the environment,

by sustainably managing deer,

and providing for the community,

through consistent food banks supply'

Deer.

At our last helicopter count our primary site was listed as 47/km2 in density, almost five times over the recommended legal density. This represents over 520 excessive red deer. If deer numbers are not managed appropriately the government intervene to prevent further damage. Fair Feast offers a sustainable and gradual reduction of excessive numbers and creates a future mechanism to keep deer densities permanently in check.

We are also open to deer donations from our neighbours. This is because deer populations are fluid and so by reducing overpopulation in the greater area we are sustainably reducing the pressure on our primary site also. In addition, there is an increasing problem where deer managers cannot find a place for culled deer in the food chain as traditional processing facilities are overwhelmed. By accepting deer donations we will reduce wastage that can be created by overwhelmed pre-existing processing facilities.

If we work up to processing 400 deer a year we will be able to create over half a million meatballs for those in food insecurity. Deer that are culled to waste are currently not recorded in any food wastage statistics, so we will be able to create a significant amount of nutritious lean protein by effectively re-distributing what is freely available.
