When deer are overpopulated the environment is drastically impacted: biodiversity is reduced, soil quality is reduced, peatland can be damaged and release CO2, and important wildlife habitats can be damaged.

​

Alongside our five-year program a botany study will be carried out by renowned botanist Ben Averis to record the environmental pressures that an overpopulation of deer create. We want to gain a greater understanding of what an appropriate deer population density is and how we can use indicator species to identify areas of impacted land.

​

Ben Averis has been teaching botanist groups on hill for decades due to it's mosaic of different habitats and high biodiversity. Ben has generously supplied us with an overview of the hill which can be read here:
